Day 26 (13/04/09)

For my Year 1 class, I continued last week’s lesson on opening and closing an application. I showed the pupils how to open MS Word using the shortcut and instruct them to type in the alphabet and numbers. For those pupils who finish early, I asked them to type out their names. Lastly, I taught the pupils how to close the application just by clicking on the ‘X’ button. Here the pupils not only learn how to open and close the application, but also demonstrate their keyboard and mouse skills.

For my Year 4 class, I taught the pupils how to use the Polygon Lasso tool to change an eye colour of an image. I demonstrated the step by step procedure and instruct the pupils to follow. Here the pupils also learn the use of hue and saturation. Most pupils were able to complete the task with only a couple who needed assistance.

I showed them how to open Microsoft Word. Most of the pupils had difficulty so i had to show them several times but in the end most of the pupils were able to open the application.

Next, I asked them to type in the alphabet using the keyboard. Most of them were excited but took them a long time to type A-Z. I did not have time to teach them to close the application so this lesson will be carried forward to the next lesson.

For my Year 4 class, I taught them to change hair colour on an image using the brush tool. I showed them the step by step procedure on how to use the brush tool to change hair colour. I asked them to switch on and off the computer. Most of the pupils were able to do it without difficulty, with the exception of one or two pupils who needed assistance.

For my Year 4 class, I taught them how to clone an object using the clone stamp tool. I demonstrated the step by step procedure on how to clone an object. Then I instruct the pupils to do it by themselves. I had to repeat several steps, but in the end the pupils were able to clone an object using the clone stamp tool.

Day 22 (16/03/09)

For my Year 1 class, I carried forward the last lesson because last week, I only have time to teach the pupils how switch on the computer. For this lesson, I taught the pupils how to switch off the computer. At the beginning of the class, I wanted to see if the pupils remember how to switch on the computer, so I ask them to switch on the computer themselves. They were excited and were able to switch on the computer themselves. Next I ask them to navigate the mouse cursor to the centre of the screen and right click and ask them to observe what they saw on the screen. Next, I ask them to go to the ‘Recycle Bin’ icon and left click and ask them to observe what they saw on the screen. Finally, I asked them to double click on the ‘Recycle Bin’ icon and observe what they saw. Some of the pupils have difficulty in double clicking.

I then ask the pupils to navigate the mouse cursor to the ‘Start’ icon on the bottom left hand corner of the screen and left click once. Then I asked them to go to the ‘arrow’ icon and select ‘shut down’. Most of the pupils have difficulty in reading, so I asked them to select the bottom one (shut down is last on the list of drop down menu).

For my Year 4 class, I taught the pupils to add text using the text tool and crop an image using the crop tool. But first, I reviewed the last lesson and ask them to open an image. All of them were able to do it. I instruct the pupils to add text to the image and let them play with the font type, size and colour.

Next I showed the pupils the step by step procedure to crop an image using the crop tool. I instruct the pupils to crop the image. Most of the pupils were able to crop an image except one or two who needed assistance.
